Ok, so most of us will be wearing flip flops this summer! Besides the fact that it is scorching hot in South Africa, I think its a wonderful time of the year to show off our beautiful smooth feet and painted toe nails. But before we get there, we are already worried about our feet because we have been wearing sandals for a while. I mean if you are in a hot province like I am living in, (Mpumalanga-the place of a rising sun), hence the name, you will understand that I wear my closed shoes or boots only like at least a maximum of five days in a year. I wear open shoes even in winter, that's how hot it is here...
So I am kind of worried already about how smooth or Not so smooth my feet look after being exposed for that long. Ok I can try moisturising them but my question is how deep will the moisture go with a couple of dead skin on top of my beautiful skin. I must definitely work at removing the hard skin and making sure that there is enough blood circulation so that my skin can absorb all the nutrients. So I don't have enough money to buy this amazing product that is being advertised regularly where you apply a cream at night and you just wipe your hard skin off and voila, you have beautiful feet!! I used an old recipe to clean my feet and remove the dead skin off my feet!
Staff needed to get the job done:
2 litres of warm water, or enough to cover your feet
Wash basin medium or any that can cover your feet
Epsom salts 1 Teaspoon
Baking soda 1/4 teaspoon
Soap if you wish, even sunlight can do the job (optional)
Towel
Nail clippers
For the Feet scrub:
You can make a little or just enough
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon rooibos tea
3 drops tea trea oil
1 drop peppermint oil
1teaspoon Coconut oil/olive oil
Mix all the ingredients together and get ready to use them after soaking.
What to do
Pour your Epsom salts and bicarbonate in warm water and pour the water in a basin. You can also add your soap of choice if you wish. Soak your feet until the water is a bit cool for your liking. Take your feet out and wipe with a towel.
The next step is to put your feet on that towel or you can also have a kitchen towel or plastic over it to protect your towel. You then need to take your feet scrub(check the above recipe), and scrub your feet. Enjoy the aroma. Scrub as much as necessary. ps: you can definitely tell if you had enough and when your feet are feeling soft. The scrub will remove the dead skin from your feet. If you feel that it still feels rough under your feet, then you can definitely go for your foot file. If you don't have it, you can use a smooth river stone or whatever that you have that can help with that area. I know we used to use a smooth stone when we grew up or a used orange bag, just did the trick.
You then need to rinse your feet with warm water then towel dry them. This is the part when you realise how soft and smooth your feet feel. Seal the deal by applying a moisturiser with vitamin E, OR you can apply that coconut/olive oil. If you have none of those, well petroleum jelly (Vaseline), will do fine.
If you want to continue with this treatment, just apply oil to your feet at night and wear socks, if you can handle it.
Don't forget to apply your favourite nail polish to your nails just to have that finishing look!!
Try this and tell me how it went. Please share with me what you find is working for treating your feet.
