Dying your hair at home versus dying your hair at the salon

I always have enjoyed doing my own hair and face. The reason being that i wasnt satisfied with the results that i get from the salon.

So as usual i decided to dye my hair at home. I bought a dye for straight hair, ie type 1 hair and my hair type is 4. I told myself that its just dye and all hair is the same, the difference is just the type. The colour was blonde. Ok, i know what you are thinking.....

I bought the colour just to enhance the deep red that i had before and i wanted it to be lighter hence the color.
The reason i decided to do my hair at home is because i went to the salon in jhb some years ago and i asked them to cut my hair into a bob and highlight with blonde because my hair was brown already. As they were cutting my hair, they sent a girl to buy hair dye. Inecto blonde!!!!!! I thought they would use dark and lovely or another brand. So i thought, alright i must just relax! And i tried but after i saw my hair, i felt like crying........and i consoled myself by telling myself that i can work with this. I did, but the experience was not good :-( .

So i used this blonde last week and i liked it. The thing that i like about Garnier Nutrisse is that it has a conditioner to help with moisturising my hair. With my hair type it is very, very important to get this dry hair moisturised.  One thing that i had a problem with was that my scalp was itchy. I think its because of all the chemicals in it. So i must just continue with my natural dye that i get from Dischem. Will talk more about that next time.

Besides the itch, i am very happy with the results. I'd rather make mistakes with my own hair than paying someone to do it for me.  I will continue to do my own hair but i will choose to use the natural hair dye which doesnt contain any harsh chemicals.

What is your experience with hairdye?? Do you do it at home or at the salon??
